Mind

Inner Child and Parts Work

There have been many individuals who have developed wonderful theory and practice to address inner child and parts work including, but not limited to, Carl Jung's work, Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, and the Adult Chair model.  I'm interested in, have learned about, and use aspects of these modalities but, I'm not certified in any.

That being said, when we're young we learn from our families, society, and culture who and what behaviors are right or wrong, good or bad.  And many of us are traumatized or wounded in some ways.  This creates our beliefs, thoughts, stories, and narratives that continue throughout our lives.  So, as adults we still have those younger, vulnerable versions of ourselves living inside.  We then subconsciously create parts to protect these wounds from being triggered, which unfortunately can look like unhealthy, controlling, sabotaging behaviors.  But, when we learn to connect with our inner children, as well as the protective parts, we can begin to heal.  This ultimately leads to greater awareness, compassion, acceptance, less reactivity and an ability to respond to the current situation from your True Self.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness practices include being aware of the present moment in a non-judgmental way.  When you learn to stop judging things as good or bad, right or wrong, desirable or undesirable, you're able to enjoy the present moment more.  When you’re able to change the way that you think about and see events, people, and relationships, your emotions begin to change.  When your emotions change you shift your energy.  Then you’re able to remain more calm in the face of stress and unplanned events. And ultimately you’re able to enjoy the flow of life.

Body

Somatic Practices

I have been learning from some wonderful teachers, including Kimberly Ann Johnson and Whitney Ullom, about the great importance of somatic awareness.  Our culture tend to value the "why" that resides in the mind, analyzing and intellectualizing.  Somatic practices tap into the "what" through the wisdom of our bodies.  Because of the world that we live in and trauma that we experience most of our nervous systems are affected, resulting in habitual states of fight, flight, freeze, fit in, or fawn.  With somatic practices we can become more aware of our bodies, sensations, emotions, needs, boundaries, and the space that we occupy.  We can release stuck patterns, trauma, and incomplete nervous system responses.  This helps us to feel more present, connected to felt experience, our resources, and pleasure.  We return to ourselves from a place of acceptance; feeling safe, passionate, powerful, and alive.

Breathwork

Conscious connected breathwork was developed in the 70s first with Rebirthing by Leonard Orr and then Holotropic breathwork by Stan and Christina Grof.  Since then many different versions of breathwork have been used.  Conscious connected breathwork sessions are a powerful tool that we can use to listen to our own inner guidance and innate wisdom.  Sessions help us access altered states of expanded consciousness, more clearly see our patterns, release blockages, arrive at insights, relate to something larger than ourselves, feel more present, tap into our creativity, feel empowered, and connect with our Selves, physical and energetic bodies.

Please note that there are contraindications for breathwork which include, but aren't limited to: pregnancy, epilepsy, uncontrolled high blood pressure, stroke, cardiovascular disease, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, OCD, COPD, and cancer.  Please discuss with your Doctor prior to engaging in sessions.

Non-Linear Movement Method (NLMM)

Developed by my teacher Michaela Boehm, NLMM has evolved over the past 2 decades.  It's a somatic method that includes tuning in and releasing what is held in the body, including trauma, in a safe, therapeutic way.  It's a powerful technique that helps to smooth out the nervous system, process and identify emotions, awaken sensations, releases trauma patterns, open access to bodily wisdom, create high body responsiveness, and unite mind and body.  If you'd like to learn more about this practice prior to services please check out: https://www.michaelaboehm.com/the-non-linear-movement-method-2/

Energy

EFT/Tapping

When the stress of a situation exceeds our ability to cope we experience trauma; which creates energy that becomes stuck or stagnant in our bodies.  By tapping on specific meridian points, the same used in acupuncture/pressure, while talking about the event it helps to release this energy and thereby the fearful and negative reaction to it.  Does the memory go away completely?  No, but after a successful EFT treatment the stuck energy that you have around that memory is able to flow again.  This creates a feeling of peace and calm, you will not be triggered as easily or experience the same severe negative reactions.  EFT may also be used to reduce everyday stress, anxiety, pain, and release long held, recurring thoughts and beliefs that may no longer be useful.

Reiki

I'm a certified Reiki practitioner, although I currently don't use it in therapeutic practice.  Usui Reiki was developed a little over 100 years ago in Japan.  Reiki translates to 'Universal Life Energy' and is a safe non-invasive form of healing that anyone can benefit from.  It can be used as a stand alone treatment or in conjunction with other modalities.  It can promote harmony and balance, relax and release bodily tension, break down energy blockages, promote self healing, clear the mind, help focus, relieve pain, improve sleep, and help spiritual growth.
